New Vampire CW Show: Maybe Hotter Than Twilight

The CW will premiere its own vampire installment, resembling the "Twilight" story, but perhaps a little more edgy

With the vampire craze of late, it was only a matter of time before the teen masterminds at the CW (Kevin Williamson of "Dawson's Creek"), came up with a vampire saga of its own. "The Vampire Diaries," much like the HBO series "True Blood," and the film "Twilight," is based on a series of books, this time by L.J. Smith.

While "True Blood" upholds the gore and sex of traditional vampire stories, the famed "Twilight Saga," based on books by the now famous Stephenie Meyer, takes the vampire tale to new meanings of sexual tension, and whose vampires are in fact "vegetarians." "Diaries" resembles "Twilight" in that it's a teenage story about a vampire boy who falls for a lonely girl; like Edward Cullen of "Twilight," he abstains from drinking human blood.

"Diaries" may be a bit more edgy than "Twilight," offering more gore—and possibly a little more sexual release.
