Fox's Risky Decision Pays Off for "Glee"
Last spring, people wondered at Fox's decision to air the pilot of "Glee" and then making its viewers wait a whole summer to see the next episode.
Fox's risk paid off on Wednesday when the premiere attracted 7.3 million viewers, coming in second to NBC's "America's Got Talent."
Wednesday night was an unusual night for TV with President Obama's speech pre-empting the 8 p.m. time slot of all the major networks except for Fox.
"Glee" follows the director of a high school glee club (also known as show choir) and the club's socially awkward members.
Ryan Murphy, the creator of "Nip/Tuck," is the show's producer.
Murphy performed in show choir through college, so when he read Ian Brennan's script, Murphy told Brennan, "I get this world."
"Glee" airs on Wednesday nights at 9 p.m., 8 p.m. central on Fox.
