Maura Tierney Drops Out of Parenthood
Actress Maura Tierney will no longer be a cast member of the new NBC series Parenthood.
According to Us Weekly, the 44-year-old actress had to leave the series to undergo treatment for breast cancer. Tierney announced in July that she would have surgery for a tumor in her breast.
E! reports that NBC postponed the show's premiere for two months to allow her to get treated, but now her treatments are conflicting with the production schedule, forcing her to bow out of the show.
A rep for the ER actress said, "Ms. Tierney and her doctors remain confident that the outcome of her treatments will be positive. She is deeply disappointed that she will not be able to rejoin such a highly respected, talented, fun and funny group of actors and wishes to thank Jason Katims and NBC for their patience and support."
Tierney was going to play Sarah Braverman on the show. Producers are now looking to recast the character. Parenthood is now has a midseason premiere date.
