Fashion's Night Out Turns N.Y. into One Big Party
According to the Fashion's Night Out Web site, over 700 retailers and designers across New York City hosted various fashion-themed parties that were open to the public, and not hosted exclusively for those in the fashion industry. The idea was first presented by Vogue editor Anna Wintour to celebrate fashion and to help stimulate the global retail economy during the recession.
The New York Post reports the overwhelming amount of attendees to the citywide event. Shoppers had a chance to party, shop and schmooze with models, celebrities, and fashion designers like Oscar De La Renta and Alexander Wang. Victoria Beckham, Sarah Jessica Parker, Ciara, Taylor Momsen, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Justin Timberlake, Charlize Theron and Hugh Jackman were all in attendance at various stores to either sign autographs, perform or enjoy the night's festivities. Some fashion magazines are predicting this event to become an annual kickoff for fashion week.
Fashion's Night Out was also held in the United Kingdom, Greece, Italy, Russia, France, Brazil, India, Spain, China, Germany, Japan, and Taiwan.
