Tyler Perry's I Can Do Bad All By Myself tops Friday's box office

Tyler Perry's comedy-drama takes box office Friday

Tyler Perry tops the Friday box office with his latest film, "Tyler Perry's I Can Do Bad All By Myself."

The PG-13 rated comedy drama stars Taraji P. Henson, Gladys Knight, Mary J. Blige, and Tyler Perry himself as his alter ego "Madea." The film's opening day grossed an estimated $8.7 million in 2,255 theaters.

Although this number isn't quite as high as the $14.7 million that Perry's last movie, "Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail," grossed on its first day, "Bad" is still on track to collect $20 million in opening weekend box office figures.

"9," directed by Shane Acker and produced by Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov, took second place with $3.3 million. Horror flick, "Sorority Row," came in third with $1.92 million, with "Inglorious Basterds" staying close to the top with $1.9 million.

"All About Steve" rounds out the top five with $1.8 million in Friday ticket sales.
