Playboy magazine founder Hugh Hefner has filed for divorce after eleven years of estrangement from his wife, former Playmate Kimberley Conrad.

On Friday, Hefner filed documents in L.A. County Superior Court to end their marriage, citing "irreconcilable differences." The documents say they were married on July 1, 1989 and have been separated since January 12, 1998.

TMZ reports that Hefner had been supporting Conrad and their two sons, who have been living in the house adjacent to the Playboy mansion.

Hefner is asking the judge to set spousal support at $20,000 per month. He says that he has given Conrad around $12 million since their 1998 separation.

"I am happy to be out of the marriage. I only remained married (to Conrad) for the sake of the children, at her request. I am happy to have this behind me," Hefner told TMZ in a telephone interview Wednesday.
