McNabb's Rib Injury Concerns Eagles, Status Uncertain for Week 2
Although the Philadelphia Eagles dismantled the reigning NFC South champion Carolina Panthers 38-10 in their regular season opener on Sunday, the team has cause for concern due to the injury status of their franchise quarterback. Donovan McNabb injured his lower left side after diving into the end zone for a touchdown when two Panthers defensive linemen landed on top of him.
McNabb writhed in pain on the ground as he held his side, which caused his Eagles teammates, coaches and fans to hold their collective breath, hoping that their star quarterback would be alright. At the post-game press conference, Eagles head coach Andy Reid told the media that McNabb had suffered a fractured rib and his immediate status for next week's game was uncertain.
Earlier today, Reid spoke to the media once again and appeared unsure about McNabb's availability for their week two matchup against the New Orleans Saints. Reid said, "He's pretty sore, he's going to try and battle through it. He'll struggle to practice."
If McNabb's injury prevents him from starting against the Saints, 3rd year backup quarterback Kevin Kolb will get the nod. It is unknown as to whether or not the Eagles will insert Michael Vick as the starting quarterback when he returns from suspension in week three if McNabb is forced to sit out multiple games.
