Eagles Add Michael Vick to Active Roster, Speculation Rising in Philly

With Donovan McNabb's rib injury, yesterday's acquisition of Jeff Garcia and Vick's activation, the Eagles quarterback situation is crazier than ever.

With Michael Vick's suspension slated to expire after this week's game against the New Orleans Saints, the Philadelphia Eagles have activated their controversial quarterback and placed him on the 53-man roster, according to USA Today. This decision comes just one day after the Eagles learned that starting quarterback Donovan McNabb has a fractured rib and it also comes after the team acquired former starting quarterback Jeff Garcia through free agency.

Although it is not known whether or not McNabb will be able to play on Sunday against the Saints and there is no timetable for his return in case his injury is more severe than is currently being reported, the activation of Vick by Philadelphia gives the team four potential options at the quarterback position.

The first game that Vick will be eligible to participate in is the upcoming September 27 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. If he is inserted into the game at any point during that contest, it will mark the first regular season game action that Vick will have experienced since his imprisonment over his role in dog fighting gambling activities.

There is no question that McNabb is the undisputed leader of the Eagles franchise and if he is healthy, he will be the team's starting quarterback. However, speculation has been rising for weeks amongst members of the Philadelphia media as well as within the Eagles fan community about how the team plans on utilizing Vick in the offense.
