WWE's McMahon Running for Senate in Home State of Connecticut

Former WWE CEO Linda McMahon throws her hat into the Republican field to potentially run against incumbent Connecticut Senator Christopher Dodd

The Wall Street Journal's official website is reporting that longtime CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment, Linda McMahon, resigned from her position earlier this morning in order to make a full commitment to running for Senate in Connecticut. She is joining a crowded race for the Republican nomination in the state as the political party looks to overtake the position that is currently held by Democratic Senator Christopher Dodd.

McMahon was born and raised in North Carolina but she has resided in Connecticut for several years. Earlier this year, the Senate and House approved of her nomination to become a member of the state's Board of Education by counts of 34 to 1 and 96 to 45, respectively.

According to The Wall Street Journal's official website, McMahon is the fourth Republican to announce her candidacy as the party's Senate contender, joining Senator Sam Caligiuri, former U.S. Ambassador to Ireland Tom Foley and Representative Tom Foley.

Connecticut is viewed as a state that traditionally votes for Democratic candidates but recent poll results indicate an increasing amount of uncertainty surrounding the performance of incumbent Senator Christopher Dodd. Analysts of the state's current political structure believe Dodd's position as chairman of the Senate Banking Committee may affect him negatively in the upcoming election.
