Leno Show Loses 7 Million Viewers in its Second Night on the Air
After the pilot episode of "The Jay Leno Show" debuted on Monday, critics bashed its concept, lack of entertainment value and unoriginality. Reviewers claimed that it appeared to be an exact replica of the comedian's late night show and that the only difference between the two programs was the time slot. Apparently, many viewers of the debut show agree with the critics as the "The Jay Leno Show" experienced a significant ratings drop off last night.
After receiving an outstanding 18.4 million viewers for their pilot episode, "The Jay Leno Show" reportedly lost more than 7 million viewers by pulling in just 10.4 million viewers on Tuesday night. Even with the drastic reduction in number of viewers, the show still managed to be the highest rated primetime show in the country last night.
NBC's decision to cut costs by moving Jay Leno into the 10:00 PM EST time slot five nights a week was met with widespread criticism amongst many within the network television community. The network has placed a tremendous amount of effort into promoting the show as an entirely different program altogether in comparison to the one that Leno appeared on at 11:30 PM EST for 17 years.
