Joe Satriani and Coldplay have settled their legal disputes

The guitarist's lawsuits have been dismissed.

Back in December, guitarist Joe Satriani sued British rock band Coldplay. Satriani accused the band of copyright infringement, claiming that Coldplay's song "Viva La Vida" contained "substantial, original portions" of his 2004 track "If I Could Fly." The lawsuit has now been dismissed according to Satriani's representative.

Although the details of the case are not disclosed to the public, legal sources said a financial settlement may have been reached, according to Reuters.

When Satriani first heard Coldplay's hit song he said that he "felt like a dagger went right through my heart. It hurt so much."

Coldplay said that Satriani "did not write or have any influence on the song." They continued, "If there are any similarities between our two pieces of music, they are entirely coincidental and just as surprising to us as to him."

Howard E. King, Satriani's lawyer, said the Coldplay's response was typical for copyright infringement cases.
