IOC Announces Vote for 2016 Olympic Host Will Come Down to Wire

The President of the International Olympic Committee, Jacques Rogge, announces that the 2016 Summer Olympic destination vote will be decided by tiny margin

According to The Washington Post, there is no clear-cut frontrunner in the race between Chicago, Madrid, Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo to become the official host for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games. All four potential venues scored noticeably well on International Olympic Committee scoring reports, which were recorded in August.

International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge announced his belief earlier this morning that the city that is ultimately victorious will likely win by the slightest of margins. There are currently 115 members of the IOC who will be voting on the destination for the 2016 Olympics and all four potential venues are held in high regard.

During a teleconference held earlier today, Rogge said, "It is probably going to be a couple of votes ... it is going to be very close. Don't forget that something like four, five votes is a change of mind of just two or three people. We are very thrilled that the four candidates are of first class. Each of them could organize very good Games."

Various factors that the International Olympic Committee voters will take into consideration include potential revenues, fundamentals, geographic location and transportation. The potential venue that may be of the most intrigue is Rio de Janeiro since there has never been an Olympic Games held in a South American city.
