WWE's Linda McMahon Jumps into the Political Ring
According to the New York Times, Linda E. McMahon is stepping down as World Wresting Entertainment's chief executive. The WWE is worth more than $1 billion. But, the wrestling empire's worth has not deterred McMahon from her new goal. She announced on Wednesday, Sept. 16, she was entering politics, and seeking the Republican Party nomination for Senator of Connecticut. She hopes to challenge Senator Christopher J. Dodd next year.
The Times further reports Linda McMahon's reasons for the sudden change in careers. In her announcement, McMahon argues, "Washington is out of control, and sadly, Senator Chris Dodd has lost his way and our trust." She claims that she has the "experience and the strength" to make the changes needed. But before she can implement any changes, she must face other Republican candidates for the Party nomination. Slated to run are former Congressman Rob Simmons, former Ambassador Tom Foley and state Senator Sam Caligiuri.
