Extreme Anti-Obama Protesters Raise Racism Concerns
Nearly a week after the 9-12 rallies in Washington D.C., there is still discussion about the rally, though perhaps not what some of the protesters wanted discussed.
Left-leaning blogs and news organizations have been posting pictures from the event, many showing some rather frightening signs and shirts including ones that read "Abort Obama, Not the Unborn" and "The Tree of Liberty must be refreshed from time to time
Pennsylvanians are armed and ready."
Others were seen carrying Confederate flags and wearing t-shirts that read "Celebrate Diversity" with pictures of various different guns.
One of President Obama's advisers said this week that Obama does not believe that racism plays a factor in conservative's disagreements with his policy, but many people including former President Jimmy Carter are insisting that there are racist undertones in the messages of Obama's critics.
While many of the people at the 9-12 rally might have shown up to protest health care reform and big government, there were enough crazy signs in the crowd to make the news cycle several times and spark debate about what defines satire and what defines racism.
On Wednesday, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs was vague when asked if Obama would deliver another speech on race much like the one he delivered during the campaign, but perhaps delivering a speech is not be such a bad idea.
