Avril Lavigne and Deryck Whibley Split
Avril Lavigne and her husband, Sum 41 lead singer Deryck Whibley, are splitting up after three years of marriage. Lavigne confirmed rumors of the couple's separation on her MySpace page on Thursday, Sept. 17. Her post explains the amicable separation, "He is the most amazing person I know and I love him with all my heart. Deryck and I are separating and moving forward on a positive note."
People.com reports neither Lavigne nor Whibley have filed or signed divorce papers, and the prospect of the couple getting back together was unlikely. For some time, the couple has been spotted living and partying separately, and arguing in public. Lavigne spends time in New York and Texas, and Whibley spends his time in Los Angeles.
Lavigne and Whibley both grew up in Ontario, Canada, and started dating in early 2004 and later married in July 2006. Lavigne was 21 years old and Whibley was 26. They wed in a non-denominational ceremony held at a private estate in Montecito, Calif. The union also inspired their partnership in their music careers. BBC notes songs from Avril Lavigne's untitled fourth album have been produced by her husband Deryck Whibley. The album is set to release in November 2009.
