Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs Dominates at Box Office
Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs raked in $30.1 million over the weekend, earning the film the top spot at the box office. The earnings also mark the highest opening weekend gross for any movie released in September this year, according to MTV.com. The 3-D animated family flick beat the highly anticipated Megan Fox horror, "Jennifer's Body," and Jennifer Aniston's new romantic comedy, "Love Happens."
Steven Soderbergh's "The Informant!" starring Matt Damon, took the second spot in the box office. The comedy based on actual events earned $10.5 million. The New York Daily News reports Damon and Jennifer Anniston experienced their worst opening weekend in years. "Love Happens" starring Anniston and Aaron Eckhart opened in fourth place with an unimpressive $8.5 million.
Tyler Perry's "I Can Do Bad All By Myself," box office hit dropped from its number one spot to third place earning $10.1 million. Last weekend the movie made $23.4 million. Rounding out the top 5 on box office list is the Academy Award-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody's thriller "Jennifer's Body." Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried were only able to bring in $6.8 million.
