Trav-esty in trial: Travolta testifies in extortion case

Against an alleged plot fit for Hollywood, the actor takes his most heartbreaking role: parent.

Accompanied by wife Kelly Preston and surrounded by security, John Travolta arrived at a Bahamas courthouse this morning to testify in the extortion trial linked to his 16-year-old son Jett's January death.

One of 14 witnesses to be called in the proceedings, Travolta took the stand to testify against Paramedic Tarino Lightbourne and former Bahamas Senator Pleasant Bridgewater accused of attempting to extort $25 million from the actor. Allegedly, the paramedic and past senator blackmailed Travolta with a private document related to the tragedy.

On the stand this morning, Travolta was made to relive the attempt at his son's revival. According to TMZ, "Travolta testified his nanny woke him up at around 10:15 AM on January 2 and told him his son was unconscious in the bathroom. Travolta says when he went downstairs, he saw Jett on the ground and one of the caretakers was doing chest compressions."

E! Online quotes the actor, "Jeff, the other nanny, was doing some compressions...I was doing the breathing." Jett later died from the seizure.
