Julianna Margulies Still Has What it Takes in "The Good Wife"
Last night marked the premiere of many a new drama series. I chose to watch the new CBS family/law drama "The Good Wife." This is probably due to my partiality to Julianna Margulies, whom I've admired since the early days of "ER."
I was surprised to see some veteran actors previously unmentioned, including Christine Baranski and Josh Charles. The first episode featured Margulies' Alicia Florrick joining her disgraced husband (Chris Noth) to the podium as he gives a speech following his resignation from the DA's office (sex scandal, among other disgraces). After a swift slap in the face behind the scenes, we jump six months later, and Alicia is rekindling her career as a lawyer. Her first assignment as a junior associate is to defend a woman charged with killing her husband in a re-trial.
SPOILER ALERT: Alicia proves to be pretty savvy, even after all these years of domesticity. And Josh Charles' Will Gardner watches over Alicia like a big brother, though perhaps there had been a romance back in law school.
I have hope for "The Good Wife." I will even face the commercials again next week to see Alicia's next case, and how her relationship with her incarcerated husband pans out.
