Ashley Hamilton and Macy Gray "Dancing with the Stars" No More
The end of the three-night premiere of "Dancing with the Stars" was marked by the elimination of actor Ashley Hamilton and Grammy award-winner Macy Gray.
Ashley Hamilton, the son of actor and one-time competitor on the show George Hamilton, received the night's lowest marks. He and his professional partner, Edyta Sliwinska, failed to make it past the first foxtrot, and tied for last place with just 19 points out of 40.
Judge Bruno Tonioli remarked that Hamilton had "a total lack of showmanship." However, Hamilton said he was happy just to have had a chance to dance on the show.
"It's been a blast," he said. "I've had a great partner and it was a great experience."
Macy Gray and professional partner Jonathan Roberts also scored 19 points out of 40 for their two dances on Tuesday. Gray looked awkward and ill-prepared during her Viennese waltz, and most of the judges seemed to agree.
However, Judge Carrie Anne Inaba said Gray's dancing was "beautiful in its own bizarre way." Either way, she also tied for last place, and was thus eliminated.
The 42-year-old Grammy winner said she "had a good time" on the show. "Ballroom isn't my calling exactly, but I learned a little bit," she said.
Viewer votes are combined with judges' scores to determine which contestants are eliminated each week.
