Not everyone likes what Michael Moore has to say
On Friday a lawyer representing documentary filmmaker, Michael Moore urged a federal judge to dismiss a libel lawsuit filed by James Nichols, the brother of Terry Nichols, a conspirator in the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing.
James Nichols' attorney argued that Moore "offered half-truths or total untruths" concerning his client in Moore's 2002 film "Bowling for Columbine". James Nichols also claims that Moore incorrectly stated that he had been arrested in connection with the bombing when in fact he was only held as a material witness and that later charges against him were not connected with the bombing and were eventually dropped. Overall Nichols feels that the film implied that he was involved with the bombing but somehow got off.
Moore's attorney describes Nichols' claims "from frivolous to silly" and explained that, "When you see a Michael Moore movie, you know it's opinion, and therefore it's protected." He also brought up that James Nichols is considered to be a public figure after writing a book, given speeches and appeared in several media interviews. So this protects Moore's statements even more.
Terry Nichols is currently serving two life sentences without the chance of parole for his involvement in the Oklahoma City bombing.
