Ted Kennedy's Successor Sworn In Today

Paul G. Kirk Jr. was sworn in today as Ted Kennedy's successor, and Kennedy's son praised Kirk as a man who will carry on Kennedy's legacy.

Ted Kennedy's successor was sworn in today in an emotional ceremony that was attended by the senator's widow, brother, sister, and son.

Paul G. Kirk Jr. will be taking over Ted Kennedy's Senate Seat after much debate about whether Senate successors should be appointed or elected.

Steven Pagliuca, the managing director of Bain Capital, and Michael Capuano, U.S. Representative, were candidates for the position, and Joseph P. Kennedy II and Republican Scott Brown were also considered at one point.

Kirk served as assistant to Kennedy for years, and Kirk's supporters claim that his years working with Kennedy will be an asset in taking over his seat.

Edward Kennedy Jr. praised Kirk's judgment, stating, "He knows my father. He knows my father's staff. He knows the people of Massachusetts."
