Handwritten piece sheds new light on star, author claims
An author has claimed to have found a prize-winning essay written by a 10 year old Paul Mc Cartney, The Press Association revealed this morning.
Kevin Roach was researching for a book on the Beatles legend when he stumbled on the handwritten piece among records at the Central Library.
The piece is about the Queen’s coronation and sheds new light on the thoughts of the then budding superstar, the author claims.
McCartney is universally recognised as the most successful songwriter in popular music history, and the Guinness Book of World Records backs this up statistically- listing his 60 gold records and sales of 100 million singles. After leaving the Beatles he went on to a successful solo career and formed the band Wings with wife Linda Eastman and Denny Laine.
Linda passed away in 1998, and the divorce proceedings of McCartney and subsequent wife Heather Mills generated huge public interest and debate. Public opinion was solidly behind McCartney, after being awarded $38.5 million Mills’ reaction was to throw a glass of water over McCartney’s lawyer. She had been "inconsistent, inaccurate and less than candid", while McCartney had been “honest”, according to the judge. Many saw the proceedings as a greedy, cold and calculated grab for money.
McCartney has been back in the news recently for happier reasons, as the Beatles remastered catalogue has been released, along with a fab four version of videogame Rock Band. We know all about the superstar he came to be, but an essay wrriten by a 10 year old McCartney would indeed be fascinating for his many fans, a chance to see the work of the 10 year old boy from Liverpool who would one day conquer the world with his friends.
