Martha Stewart Prefers Prison to Home

The famous domestic diva would rather be in prison than under house arrest

Being locked up in prison for lying about a stock trade served Martha Stewart so well that the domestic diva prefers being locked up behind bars to her current predicament in house arrest. Stewart was given a cutesy moniker, "M. Diddy," by her prison roomies at the minimum-security prison in Alderson, West Virginia in 2004. Stewart's cellmate even put up with her insomnia and need to sleep with the lights on. "I had a roommate who put up with it. She didn't mind it. She had a big thing tied around her head," Stewart said. And that sure beats having a so-not-fashionable electronic bracelet around your ankle, even if it means having the freedom to shake and bake on your own fancy Viking stove. But the unstylish anklet and stifling confinement sentence will be removed in August so the ex-prisoner can have a coming-out party for herself and her two new televisions show, "The Apprentice: Martha Stewart," and a one-hour daytime series, "Martha."
