The Good Wife: Episode Two
I watched "The Good Wife" (CBS, 10 p.m.) for its second episode. While I enjoy watching Julianna Margulies' Alicia try to stay on her toes, Josh Charles (Will Gardner) shines in his role as the charming, calculating lawyer who looks out for her (despite a reprimand for a mistake in Alicia's research.)
The writers lead with the law drama first, which makes perfect sense. Everyone loves a courtroom scene, and the case this week proved equally interesting as the murder last week. It involved a stripper rape victim at the hands of a very rich, very important Chicago man, with a family name equivalent to Rockefeller.
Will, Alicia, and investigator Kalinda (a growing friend and ally of Alicia's, played by Archie Panjabi) are skeptical due to the wealth of the accused, but end up playing ball. The episode concerned itself with the politics behind law, concerning not just the accused and the opinion of the new D.A., but even the seemingly liberal judge.
The stripper client also forces Alicia to confront her husband's infidelities head on, while her kids are protective of her feelings. I'll be tuning in next week in hopes of seeing how the family drama develops.
