Welcome Back Winnie!

An ambitious author takes up the task of reviving the beloved bear.

The new obsession with sequels has become a bit overwhelming and many continuations only prove that most things were better off as a one time deal, can anyone say Saw VI? But finally there is a return that is worthwhile: the comeback of Winnie the Pooh.

Everybody's favorite bear has stayed alive through movies, shows, and sheer legacy, but as of Monday he will return to stories in the first authorized sequel in 80 years.

For the past four years, David Benedictus has been working on taking up where A.A. Milne, even including a visit to Ashdown Forest, where the original stories were set, for inspiration. This lucky writer had something special that made owners of Pooh rights agree to finally allow someone else to work with the character.

Michael Brown, the chairman of the Trustees of the Pooh Properties, admits that numerous writers have show interest in taking on this role but says, 'Most of them were absolute rubbish.'

The new books will bring a fresh take on the Hundred Acre Woods, along with a new character. Pooh, Piglet, and Tigger acquire a new friend Lottie the Otter in Benedictus' books. Lottie will be only the second female character since Kanga to romp around with Pooh and friends.

Mark Burgess, illustrator of Paddington Bear, worked on drawings for the series, which include two volumes of ten stories each. Pooh fans everywhere can run to grab copies on Monday, October 5th in the United States and Britain.
