Sweet Deal for Lauren Conrad's L.A. Candy
The executive producing team of the wildly successful "Twilight" franchise has acquired the rights to Lauren Conrad's debut novel, "L.A. Candy."
Conrad, fresh off reality series "The Hills" approached producers Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey about adapting her book onto the big screen with a view the producers were excited about.
For "L.A. Candy," Conrad drew closely on life inspiration as the story follows the fictional character of Jane Roberts move to Hollywood and the success she finds after landing a role on a reality-TV show.
"We loved her take. Her book is an honest portrayal of what it must be like to set out to be normal, then sign on to become famous and eventually realize, wow, this isn't at all what I'd planned for myself," Bowen told Variety.
"L.A. Candy" has already spent 14 weeks on the New York Time best seller list and is the first of a three part Jane Roberts-focused book deal with Harper Collins.
Bowen and Godfrey will first approve a screenwriter to adapt the book before taking the project to a studio. Conrad will also executive produce the adaptation.
