Hush Hush Sweet Ensign

Nevada Senator under full scale ethics investigation.
Ah the value ticket is certainly being punched again in our nation of saints. The fallout from an extramarital affair is distancing John Ensign from his brethren in the Senate if they are not moving a few pews down in the church.
Mr. John Ensign, Rep. Senator from the State of Nevada had acknowledged in June that he had an affair with Cynthia Hampton, a campaign aide and wife of Douglas Hampton, who worked in Mr. Ensign's Senate office. The Hamptons were longtime friends of the senator and his wife. I guess the saying holds true in politics as for literature. You go with what you know.
Currently in this season of scandal, which by the way runs 365 days long, politicians choose one of four positions when caught; admission of guilt, admission of nothing (later retracted and changed to one of the remaining three), admission of homosexuality, or repentance.
Ensign’s recent response that he has done nothing illegal is spoken like the true career politician wearing his last clean suit while shoving the remainder of his dirty laundry quickly into the house for his wife to sort through.
True, he hasn’t broken any laws that we know of, unless you count the ones between husband and wife and between man and God. But Republicans aren’t the least bit interested in things of such nature. Of course there is that little question of ethics currently being kicked around and under investigation but that remains in the capable hands of the Senate committee now looking into the matter.
Apparently, after Mr. Hampton had discovered his wife’s affair he had been rewarded by Ensign with lobbying clients which is a no-no as there is a law in place prohibiting former top aides from lobbying the Senate up to a year after they leave their positions. Both Hampton and Ensign knew of the restrictions but ignored it.
Sex scandals on the political front are fascinating. I’m in awe of how quickly they move from the political stages to a Mel Brooks production with both parties easily quoting King Louis XVI from “History of the World Pt. 1,” “Come on, you do it. You love to do it. We all do it. You do it. I do it, I love to do it. I just did it and I'm ready to do it again, don't tell me you don't do it!” Indeed.
Ensign maintains he will run for re-election in 2012. I’m guessing I should purchase that snuggie now to comfort him when that campaign doesn’t flesh out so to speak because like those restrictions, many will choose to ignore it.
