Mel Gibsons Drunk Driving Arrest Expunged

In a routine procedure, Mel Gibsons drunk driving arrest from 2006 in which he made anti-Semitic comments was expunged Tuesday

Mel Gibson fans can rest assured. A judge ruled Tuesday morning that Gibson's conviction following a 2006 drunk driving arrest in Malibu be expunged.

The case became famous due to reports that Gibson related anti-Semitic comments during the arrest to a sheriff's deputy, according to LATimes.com.

The expunging procedure is not unusual, and removes the arrest from Gibson's record. Gibson's sentence consisted of $1,300 worth of fines, required attendance at Alcoholic Anonymous meetings and his appearance in public service announcements.

Despite the anti-Semitic remarks, the case was criticized for being too lenient on Gibson, receiving special treatment due to his celebrity status. Gibson blew a .12 percent into a breathalyzer that fateful July night, which may have explained his resistance during arrest, and declaring that not only did he "own Malibu", but that "Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world" LATimes.com.
