Chris Rock being sued over documentary
Actor/comedian/film and TV producer Chris Rock is being sued for at least $5 million by a filmmaker who is attempting to block the release of his upcoming documentary.
According to article in HollywoodReporter.com, "Regina Kimbell sued Rock and several film companies in federal court in Los Angeles on Monday, claiming Rock's project is a copycat of her film, My Nappy Roots.' Kimbell states she screened her film for the comedian in 2007. The lawsuit states My Nappy Roots' traces the business and cultural history of black hair care and has otherwise been shown only at colleges and film festivals since its completion in 2006.'"
Kimbell's lawsuit asserts that certain components of her film are copied in Rock's documentary.
Rock's publicist declined to comment on the issue.
But, despite the impending lawsuit, Rock's documentary entitled "Good Hair" will be released in select cities on Friday and nationwide on Oct. 23.
Rock's previous credits include the 1998 Richard Donner-directed Mel Gibson/Danny Glover/Rene Russo/Joe Pesci/Jet Li action film "Lethal Weapon 4," the 2007 romantic comedy "Down to Earth" opposite Regina King, Chazz Palminteri, Eugene Levy and Frankie Faison, the 2005 remake of the classic 1974 Burt Reynolds/Eddie Albert film "The Longest Yard" opposite fellow actor/comedian and ex-"SNL" cast member Adam Sandler, voicing the character of Marty in 2005's "Madagascar" and its sequel 2008's "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa."
