Andrew Lloyd Webber Continues the Phantom
Andrew Lloyd Webber fans, the wait is over. The composer is currently working on a sequel to his beloved "Phantom of the Opera." The work is entitled "Love Never Dies" and Webber told reporters that in fact it will be a stand-alone piece, says AssociatedPress. Whatever Webber's reluctance for calling the show a sequel, the musical actually picks up 10 years after the end of "Phantom." Webber was dissatisfied with the ending of "Phantom," and therefore wanted to continue the story. For non-Webber fans, Christine leaves the Phantom for his rival, Raoul.
Instead of hiding underneath the Paris opera house, the Phantom will venture to Coney Island, which at the turn of the century was a world-renowned playland. The plot outline involves the Phantom somehow controlling Coney Island while maintaining his love for Christine.
The show will start in London and make its way to New York next year.
