NBC Drama "Southland" Cancelled
NBC is trimming the fat in its quest for better ratings. The network has cancelled the new show "Southland," which featured a few big names including Regina King, Tom Everett Scott and Ben McKenzie of "The O.C."
After six episodes, production was ordered to shut down and "Dateline NBC" will air in its timeslot (Friday, 9 p.m.). Producer John Wells, who brought NBC hits like "ER" and "The West Wing," said he is actively seeking a new home for the series, according to HollywoodReporter.com. It is uncertain when exactly the last six episodes will air.
"Southland" premiered last April to favorable reviews but suffered in ratings. Moving the time from Thursdays at 10 p.m. to Fridays at 9 p.m. proved fatal. NBC could be acting in desperation. The '09 season has not panned out well for the network; both veteran and new shows have slumped in the ratings.
