Critics Aren’t Sold on “Couples Retreat“
9-Oct-2009
Written by: Natalie Gregory

Critics are bagging the new comedy “Couples Retreat“ though with big names like Vince Vaughn their opinion may not matter much

The critics have spoken, and everywhere from the LATimes to ABC.com, “Couples Retreat” is mostly thumbs down. It’s sad really, since I actually really love Vince Vaughn and his buddies who co-star, including Jason Bateman, Jon Favreau, Kristen Bell and Kristin Davis.

Of course, reviews and box office results are not always consistent, and “Couples Retreat” will most likely foster a high turnout, if only because many of these actors have followings from previous films, most notably Vaughn and Bateman. Even Favreau is now apart of this Vaughn/SNL/Apatow extended comedy family; you might remember him showing up in last spring’s hit comedy “I Love You, Man.”

They may have revealed all the humor in the trailer, not uncommon when a film is marketed like crazy. While there may be some funny moments, it looks like a few friends wanted to go on vacation and wrote a movie, perhaps with a slight reflection of what couplehood becomes after your twenties. “Couples Retreat” opens Friday nationwide.
