Jon and Kate Plus Eight - School Days

Kate prepares for the first day of school by bringing the kids to the shoe store. She then has to deal with the separation with her kids.

The kids get into the van to buy supplies. This year the sextuplets are going to Junior Kindergarten. The children need several supplies including lunchboxes and shoes. Kate brings them to the shoe store for the first time. Typically Kate orders the children's shoes online. She's hoping that the kids all pick different pairs, all of them being Velcro. Kate tries to wrangle the children to calm them down. She tries letting the girls choose sneakers first. The girls continue to take their socks off as does Joel. Kate gets frustrated and decides to go with another strategy: one kid at a time. Kate was happy that several of the selections have Velcro and were stylish. Luckily, Kate also finds a lunchbox that match the book bag that she purchased online for Aaden. Kate is happy to have survived the shoe store experience.

Kate was annoyed two years ago about seeing fans, nowadays Kate is more appreciative about the fans. They have boosted her support and it helps her. She knows that people are supporting her fight.

The kids play with toys downstairs all excited about going to school the next day. Kate prepares the children's lunches. The kids pop up while Kate was making rice crispy treats fueled by the sweet smells. The children help with an assembly line for the food with their lunch boxes. Kate got emotional seeing eight lunchboxes. The idea of letting her babies go was hard. After the food was ready, she made the sextuplets get ready for bed. While she was alone, she felt the fear of letting all her children go. She gets the bags all set up on the table downstairs. Mady and Cara help her mother while Kate gets all the clothes and socks ready. They are sent upstairs to prepare for dinner.

At 5:30 AM the kids are up and excited. Kate and her babysitter got the children prepared. The kids have to go through several steps as they prepare. Kate is surprised that there is no tears from the children, showing how well adjusted the kids are. Jon showed up to help the kids. They run to him for kisses and hugs. He understands that they are still family, divorce or not. Kate and Jon decided that Kate would bring the sextuplets, while Jon would bring the twins to the bus stop. Kate hopes that the civility will continue for the bigger events. They don't film any form of bus stop or school, but paparazzi managed a few pictures.

Kate felt really strange after watching the bus leave because Jon wasn't really there to support her. She cried a little bit, but she got past the emotions and drove back to the house. She thought the house felt different, because the house went from really loud to really quiet. Kate is excited to get her business and work done while the kids are away to have more time with the kids. She's just afraid that there's no time left anymore.

Kate went upstairs to get Mady and Cara's laundry and she was speechless. The room was a mess. She was up for two hours pulling out all the laundry and garbage. In the end, she pulled out six bags of garbage. There's a rule that they can't tape the kids rooms, but Kate really wanted people to see the sights.

The kids came home at lunch because it was a half day; Kate realized that it was moot for her to have made lunch for the sextuplets. This gave her a chance to lay down the rules of eating all the food and the correct order of snacks. The kids sing about liking school. The kids struggle trying to say "thank you" in Spanish in the interviews. The sextuplets were confused thinking that they were in the same class as Mady and Cara, upsetting the twins. They felt like the sextuplets were invading their territory. Cara came home with a story that the sextuplets passed by her classroom and shouted to her, embarrassing her. The rest of the teachers had to shut their doors.

Kate was excited that everything went as planned, even with the paparazzi. Kate still hasn't been fully effected by the changes and is shocked how quickly time passes.
