VH1 Honors 25th Star Studded Def Jam Anniversary
When you think of hip hop you think of Def Jam Records. Synonymous with the sound, Def Jam is notably the most celebrated of hip hop labels in the music industry bar none. So when it came time to celebrate a virtual who's who in the recording industry gathered in Brooklyn NY to commemorate the 25th anniversary at the VH1 Hip Hop Honors premiering Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 9 PM ET/PT.
Taped weeks earlier at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) Howard Gilman Opera House on September 23rd, talent from across all artistic genres came together to honor this significant milestone in hip hop music. The show paid tribute to the architects of Def Jam Records. Heroes like Bill Stephney, Chris Lighty, Julie Greenwald, Kevin Liles, L.A. Reid, Lyor Cohen, Michael Kyser, Rick Rubin, Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter and Russell Simmons transformed American pop culture by bringing hip hop to the world.
Actor/comedian Tracy Morgan hosted the event where guest presenters include Chris Rock, Anthony Anderson, Eve and Jimmy Fallon. Artist scheduled to perform include Ludacris, Mary J. Blige, Method Man, Onyx, Public Enemy, Redman, Warren G, Ashanti, Eminem, and Foxy Brown to name just a few.
