Jon and Kate Divorce Proceedings Under Way

Jon and Kate Gosselin went into family court today in Pennsylvania to begin divorce proceedings; money taking center stage

Marriage may be difficult. Divorce is much harder. The estranged stars of "Jon & Kate Plus Eight" (soon to be titled simply "Kate Plus Eight") went to family court Tuesday in the town of Norristown, Pennsylvania.

Many are now familiar with the very public familial troubles of the Gosselin couple, and the divorce proceedings are heating up. Kate's lawyers ordered Jon to return $180,000 in marital funds by Oct. 26, according to the Associated Press. Kate is ordered to provide accounting of past expenses by the same date.

There is also an arbitration issue concerning $55,000, which Kate claims she used for household expenses. Jon denies that such a sum ever existed for just household or child expenses.

In the meantime, the show must continue without Jon, although he sent a letter to TLC to cease-and-desist production. He believes it is now harmful to the children.
