NBC snubs “Glee”
13-Oct-2009
Written by: Justin Carbone

The cast of “Glee“ denied a spot to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

Cast of GLEE meet fans and sign autographs, Sydney Australia

Unless you have been hiding under a rock somewhere, then you know about Fox’s new hit “Glee”. The show is on Wednesday nights and it features song and dance with an underlying plot of one twisted cast of stereotypical and original characters going to an oddball school.

It is not that there is anything wrong with the cast, but its sarcastic wit and bizarre plot lines mixed with music help invent an interesting storyline. Since Television seems to be the only medium of mainstream entertainment that is trying not to recycle ideas but rather attempt to create something new, then “Glee” is a breath of fresh air.

The cast of “Glee” were offered a spot in this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, but it was extended by the parade organizers not NBC. Before checking with NBC executives, the invitation was giving to the cast, unfortunately that is now null and void. Because of this NBC has come under criticism, but why would NBC help promote a show on a rival network? “Glee” executive producer Ryan Murphy joked that he understood NBC’s decision and looks forward to seeing the Jay Leno float, a complete zing to Jeff Zucker.

According to LATimes.com, “it is a standard operating procedure for networks to avoid showing talent from rival programs. The sole exception is news programs and late-night talk shows, and even there uneasy truces are easily broken, as we've seen recently with "The Jay Leno Show." Since the "Glee" performance was likely to be a virtual infomercial for the show, it's understandable why the thought made NBC programmers queasy” states an insider from NBC.
