“Number Ones“ up for an AMA
Even after his body is finally laid to rest, Jackson is still sending shock waves throughout the music industry.
A new song of his premiered within the past couple of days called “This Is It” which is the same name of the movie to be released on the 28. The film chronicles the rehearsals for Jackson’s his last tour that never took place due to his death.
The song mentioned before was co-written by Paul Anka in the early 80’s, and was used for an artist called Sapphire in the early 90’s. Jackson recorded his own version but it was left off the “Dangerous” album and shelved until recently. When Anka heard the newly recorded version, he threatened to sue, and the Jackson family decided to give Anka credit and he will share 50 % of the royalties for the song.
Besides that Jackson is nominated for favorite album in the category of Pop/Rock for his “Number Ones” album. “Number Ones” is a greatest hits compilation that came out in 2003, but since his death it has re-charted and is the best selling album of 2009 so far.
In the category Jackson is nominated for, he goes up against Taylor Swift’s “Fearless” and Lady Gaga’s “The Fame”. Many feel that these two don’t stand a chance going up against the pop icon. As reported on LATimes.com, “a segment or two honoring Jackson would have been a better way to recognize the King of Pop's contributions to music… If Jackson wins three or four of his five nominations, then the entire American Music Awards telecast will feel very much a tribute to Jackson. In a fan-voted contest such as the American Music Awards, current pop stars such as Swift and Gaga probably don't stand a chance.”
