Jon Gosselin ordered to give back 180K!
The he-said-she-said debate is over!
For the last week, Jon and Kate Gosselin have taken their monetary marital woes to the television airwaves. Though a teary Kate claimed her estranged husband took 230K from their joint account, Jon maintained he only took $22,000, even showing "proof" of his claim with receipts on TV's The Insider. And while viewers were left to try and decipher the truth behind the embittered exes' accusations, they can finally don their investigator caps.
Jon and Kate Gosselin arrived in a Norristown, Penn., court yesterday and the judge's verdict is now in!
According to The Los Angeles Times, "Jon Gosselin has been ordered to give back $180,000! Which is a lot more than the $22,000 he says he withdrew from the family account.
Jon has to pay this money back by Oct. 26, or risk a contempt-of-court proceeding."
In response to the judge's ruling, Kate released the following statement: "As difficult as this has been for me, I am pleased that the Court has ruled fairly on behalf of myself and my children. Now that this matter has been ruled on, I look forward to returning to private arbitration, as we have agreed to do, to resolve any remaining issues."
However, it is unlikely that the private arbitration will be the end of it. With upwards of $50,000 still remaining in missing money, the court also ordered Kate to provide documentation of her withdrawals from the account.
The Boston Herald reports that Kate's attorney said that the remaining missing money, which Kate's attorney said she used for household bills and expenses relating to the children, "will be subject to further determination by the arbitrator at a later date."
Jon's response to the judge's ruling? As Jon told ET, "We weren't supposed to take money out of the restrictive account and we both did. I was found in contempt for doing so, I didn't realize, I was just like taking my paycheck out."
The ruling is yet another in a series of incidents that have left the dad of eight looking not only devious, but a bit dumb. Was Jon's paycheck 180K? And if all he thought he was doing was taking out his paycheck, why did Jon Gosselin go on national television and refute his wife's claim? Why did Jon bring receipts on The Insider to prove he didn't withdraw money he knew he did withdraw? And most of all, where is Jon Gosselin's PR person? When all this is done, will there be a PR person strong enough to dig Jon Gosselin of his ever-deepening hole?
