The man who played Captain Kirk is taking off with a new role.

Chris Pine, who made a name for himself in his role as Captain Kirk in the latest Star Trek movie, is Paramount's pick for the new Jack Ryan.

Pine follows a long list of actors who have played Clancy's CIA Analyst, starting with Alec Baldwin in 1990's "The Hunt for Red October," writes People. Harrison Ford played Jack Ryan in "Patriot Games" and "Clear and Present Danger" in 1992 and 1994, followed by Ben Affleck in 2002's "The Sum of All Fears."

Paramount announced their decision to cast Pine on Tuesday, saying that, "Tom Clancy created an unforgettable character with Jack Ryan. With Chris in this role, we've taken our first step in creating a re-boot that lives up to the successful lineage of the franchise."

According to MTV.com, Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mace Neufeld are working on the script for the unnamed movie. Di Bonaventura had said that George Clooney was ruled out due to his age.

New York Daily News reports that Pine is also working on the sequel to his Star Trek movie as well as shooting "Unstoppable," a film about a runaway train, with Denzel Washington. Plus, he's negotiating a role in the upcoming drama "The Art of Making Money" with Paramount.
