“Black Dynamite“ pays homage to the 1970’s blaxploitation films
“Black Dynamite” arrived in theaters on Friday. Michael Jai White is the star of the blaxploitation spoof.
Scott Sanders directed and help co-write the film with White and fellow actor Byron Minns. “Black Dynamite” was shot in three weeks.
White’s character is an African American superhero, a hustler, former CIA agent and Vietnam veteran who now controls the streets with a .44 Magnum and occasionally a pair of nunchucks.
A big influence was the blaxploitation film “Three the Hard Way” by Gordon Parks Jr.
The 84 minute film won the Golden Space Needle for best film at the Seattle International Film Festival this year.
Also starring in the film is Arsenio Hall, Tommy Davidson, John Salley, Salli Richardson-Whitfield and Nicole Sullivan. Producers of the film consist of Jenny Wiener Steingart and Jon Steingart.
The last time White was seen was in the blockbuster hit “The Dark Knight”.
