Beyonce Postpones Malaysia Concert Once Again
19-Oct-2009
Written by: Pahull Bains

Beyonce has postponed her concert in Malaysia due to protests by the country’s conservative Islamic party.

R&B superstar Beyonce has postponed a concert planned for Oct. 25 in Malaysia after the largely Muslim nation's opposition Islamic party raised concerns about her “Western sexy performances.” This is the second time Beyonce has cancelled a Malaysian concert, the first time being two years ago.

Foreign acts are either strongly protested or banned by the Pan Malaysian Islamic Party (PMIP), and just earlier this month, Malaysia initially banned Muslims from attending a concert by The Black Eyed Peas. The ban was later lifted, but a senior official said it was up to each individual's "better judgment" whether or not to attend the event.

Malaysian entertainment company Marctensia said in a statement on its website that, “the postponement is solely (the) decision of the artiste and has nothing to do with other external reasons.” The company’s rep didn’t allude to whether the decision was prompted by criticism from PMIP, who publicly voiced their concerns about the show’s potentially “immoral” nature.

No further information has been released. Marctensia said a new date for the concert would be announced "shortly" and a statement from Beyonce's management would be released soon.
