“Twilight” and “True Blood” Dominate Spike TV’s Scream Awards

Sci-fi television shows and movies were honored at a special awards ceremony known as the “Scream Awards.”
Spike TV's "Scream 2009" awards, "honoring the best in fantasy, sci-fi, comics and horror," took place on Saturday at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. This awards show is like no other, with an audience dressed as zombies and monsters, and "a larger-than-life snowglobe filled with murderous little girls,” according to the Associated Press.
Since most of the awards were decided by online votes, current fan favorites took home the big prizes.
“True Blood” and “Twilight” each received 4 awards, including Best TV Show and Best Fantasy Film, respectively. “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” came a close second with 3 awards, including Megan Fox’s win for Best Sci-Fi Actress. “Star Trek” won the night's highest honor, Ultimate Scream, and the audience received quite a surprise when the award was accepted by original series star William Shatner. In his acceptance speech he quipped, "This movie was big. Imagine how big it could have been with me in it?"
The event saw plenty of big stars including Morgan Freeman, Jessica Alba, Johnny Depp – who won an award for Most Anticipated Fantasy Film for “Alice in Wonderland” – and Keith Richards, who won the Rock Immortal award.
Since the ceremony wasn’t televised live, the stars felt free to use swear words with abandon. The edited version will be broadcast on Oct. 27 in a two-hour special.
