Polanski Denied Bail...Again
Things aren't looking up for Roman Polanski. The director was denied bail for a second time; a Swiss court reiterated Polanski as an extreme flight risk. He will most likely remain in jail until his possible extradition to the United States.
Swiss Federal Criminal Court Judge Cornelia Cova also denied appeals by Polanski's lawyers that he at least be placed on house arrest in his Swiss chalet or post bail, according to eonline.com. Guarantees of daily reports to police and revoking his passport did not convince the judge, since Polanski is well connected. His dual French-Polish citizenship would also make it easier to obtain other government identification.
Polanski's original flight from the 1977 sexual assault case is no doubt the reasoning behind the firm decision to hold Polanski until possible extradition, though authorities say they are complying with international extradition treaties. The U.S. has until Nov. 25 to complete a formal extradition request.
