The Good Wife, Episode Five
I'm beginning to wonder if "The Good Wife" is ever going to show a professional weakness in Alicia (Julianna Margulies). Don't get me wrong; I enjoy watching her succeed at every corner, always picking out the minutest details that actually end up being so crucial in her trials, or in Tuesday's episode, depositions.
Yes episode five was a little higher on the intrigue. There were no courtroom scenes this go-round (a necessary break), just depositions and speculations surrounding co-worker motivations. There was also more of a suggestion that Alicia and Will Gardner (Josh Charles) are either flirting or seriously flirted in the days of Georgetown.
Diane (Christine Baranski) sends Kalinda (Archie Panjabi) on a more personal investigation of a potential new partner (who Diane happens to be romantically involved with). He doesn't qualify, says Kalinda, who also suggests her salary be raised.
I'm not going to get into the big case concerning the team this week. Suffice it to say that it involves the death of three train conductors and the pursuit of a settlement, with very pregnant lawyer Patty (the always wonderful Martha Plimpton) defending the big bad train company. SPOILER ALERT: all ends well, as it usually does in this series, though to the detriment of a regretful witness.
I like "The Good Wife," and while the domestic drama is supposed to be the big struggle for Alicia, it's not quite delivering. Perhaps this is all just build-up for some serious scandal later on this season.
