Jay Cutler Signs Contract Extension

The Bears quarterback signed a $30 million contract extension through 2013 on Wednesday.

Chicago Bears v Atlanta Falcons

Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler has agreed to a two-year $30 million contract extension through the 2013 season, reports the Associated Press. Of the $30 million, $20 million is guaranteed. This comes from an anonymous source familiar with the organization.
Cutler was traded by the Denver Broncos to the Bears during the offseason, states the Los Angeles Times. The trade came after the Broncos hired new coach Josh McDaniels, who inquired into trading for quarterback Matt Cassell. Cutler was furious after hearing about this and demanded to be traded.
ESPN's Jeff Dickerson writes on his blog the time was right to give Cutler a contract extension, as it helps the Bears plan for the future. The team is currently 3-2 after a loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.
