Uncle Sam Wants Nas for Taxes

IRS slaps rapper with steep lien.
Hip Hopper Nas is not having a good day. His Uncle Sam is slapping him stupid with a $2.5 million dollar lien. Claiming this stems from the rappers failure to file in 2006 and 2007, the IRS estimates the amount owed to be $2,584,206.31. Ouch.
Nas left Sony Music to sign a lucrative record contract with Def Jam Records in 2006. Sony agreed to split the profits on the next two albums as Nas was contractually bound to deliver one more album so Sony would essentially have stake in half of two Nas albums. The deal would pay Nas approximately $3 million each for the first two albums and an undisclosed amount for two additional albums. It has been speculated that Nas earned up to $11 million closing the deal.
But Nas is being double dipped. He is currently battling a nasty divorce from singer Kelis. Nas was court ordered to pay his estranged wife $44,000 a month in alimony and child support for their son Knight born in July of this year. The ruling was temporary until a follow-up hearing would decide if the amount should be altered.
Nas is currently collaborating with reggae artist Damian Marley on the tentatively titled “Distant Relatives” album. A portion of the proceeds will go towards building a school in Africa.
