For First Time, Krumper and Tappers "Can Dance"

The sixth season of "So You Think You Can Dance" comes with some new features, and one unfortunate loss.

Judges and choreographers selected the Top 20 dancers on Wednesday night's "So You Think You Can Dance," ending the audition rounds after whittling away thousands of dancing hopefuls.

Judges Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy, and Adam Shankman made the decisions, along with other choreographers and guest judges.

Ten males and ten females will now participate in the performance section of the competition. For the first time, audiences will see tap dancers and a krumper take on the variety of dancing challenges that finalists face. Choosing Ryan and Ashleigh Di Lello marked another first; they are the only husband-and-wife pair to ever make the Top 20.

The talented group is a medley of eight contemporary, three jazz, three ballroom, one b-boy, one krumper, and one hip-hop dancer.

On Monday, October 26 at 8 PM, FOX will air a special episode showcasing each dancer in their experienced style and group dances. After these dances, judges will choose the pairings for upcoming performances.

The krumping and tapping are not the only new features in this season's episodes. For the first two weeks of the regular show, airing Tuesday, October 27 at 8 PM, judges will eliminate 2 dancers per each episode based on their own opinions. After the third episode, on November 10, audiences will be allowed to call for their favorite dancer, and their votes will determine who is sent home.

There is a sad change as well. Reuters reports that Lythgoe confirmed Mia Michaels' departure from the show.
