Morrissey 'Stable' after Collapsing on Stage

Singer Morrissey collapsed on stage during a concert, but is now said to be stable.

Morrissey, the former singer in the British band, "The Smiths," is in a stable condition after collapsing on stage, a hospital spokeswoman said on Sunday.

The 50-year-old was taken to Great Western Hospital after suffering breathing difficulties on Saturday during a gig at the Oasis Leisure Centre in Swindon, England.

Onlookers said he appeared to be "straining" to perform the song, and "wincing" throughout it. They said that as he came to the end of the song, "This Charming Man," his knees sagged and he slumped to the stage. Two band members carried him offstage where he was treated by an emergency medical team.

Morrissey, who is in the middle of a world tour, has already cancelled a string of concerts this year due to an "unspecified illness."

Mark Taylor told the Sunday Telegraph, "There was a wait of about 25 minutes before one of the stage crew came on and said Morrissey had left the building, and that he was seriously ill.

"Everybody started booing, thinking 'here we go again.' He has a bit of a poor track record for cancelling his concerts."

Morrissey's official Web site has made no comment on his condition.
