Andrew Lloyd Webber Diagnosed with Prostate Cancer

Musical theater composer Andrew Lloyd Webber has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Broadway composer Andrew Lloyd Webber has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Webber's spokesperson is insisting that fans should not worry because the cancer was diagnosed in its early stages, going so far as to say that Webber would be back at work before the end of the year.

Webber has lately been at work on a sequel to "The Phantom of the Opera," the Broadway's longest-running musical.

The sequel, "Love Never Dies," is set to open February 2010.

In the course of his career, Webber has won 1 Academy award, 3 Grammy awards, and 7 Tony awards. Some of his best known works are "Cats," "Evita," and "Jesus Christ Superstar."

Fans have already begun to show their support for the popular composer. On the website Associated Content, a fan going by "Meg C." praised Webber, writing that, "Of all the plays and symphonies I have attended over my years, Andrew Lloyd Webber's productions are among the most upbeat and moving."

Perez Hilton, the famed celebrity blogger, wrote that the announcement was "sad, sad news" for the musical theater world.
