Madonna visits her school for the underprivileged in Malawi.
Madonna arrived in Malawi today to visit the girls' school she is constructing for impoverished youth, an official for Madonna’s charity said.
According to The Associated Press, an official, who may not be named because he is not authorized to speak on the matter, said Madonna would take part in a groundbreaking ceremony for the school on Monday.
There are also plans for the celebrity to meet with Malawi’s president, Bingu wa Mutharika, and visit some of the orphanages supported by her charity.
The celebrity was accompanied on her visit by her four children: Lourdes, 13; Rocco, 9; as well as her two adopted Malawi-born children Mercy, 3, who was adopted this year; and David, 4, who was adopted in 2008.
Madonna’s Raising Malawi, founded in 2006 after Madge’s first visit to the country, helps provide food, education and medical care for Malawian orphans.
Malawi is among the world's least developed and most densely populated countries in the world. The country is also battling a rapid HIV/AIDS problem, with about 500,000 children having lost a parent to AIDS.
